What a Kia report can look like
Manufacturers don't all keep the same detail, so reports come in four shapes. We've opened the one you're most likely to get. Every entry below is made up; a real report lists the Kia's own visits.

2 entriesRecall campaign 24R1 carried out: engine control software updated.
Repair under manufacturer warranty: rear washer pump replaced.

Kia and its dealer records
Kia dealers in the United States log workshop remarks against the VIN: repair notes, recall work and warranty jobs. For Kia the report returns those remarks rather than a full service history. Kia's long US powertrain warranty brings many cars back to the dealer, which is where these remarks come from.
How Kia's digital service record works
Expect dated warranty, recall and repair entries rather than a routine service log. Where a remark lines up with a service interval it is good evidence a service was done. If nothing is on file for the VIN, you are not charged.
Where to find your Kia service history
A car's history is usually spread across a few places, and it is worth checking each one.
- Kia's dealer system. Every franchised Kia workshop logs its visits against the car's VIN. A Kia dealer will usually print them for the owner; anyone else, a buyer included, can use the check on this page.
- The Kia owner app, where there is one. Newer cars linked to an owner's account may show recent services there, but only to that account holder.
- The paper service book. Stamps from dealers and independent garages alike. If it has been lost, a replacement from the manufacturer arrives blank.
- Independent garage invoices. Work done outside the dealer network only exists on paper, so ask the seller for the folder.

FAQ
Common questions about Kia service history
How do I check Kia service history online?
Type the car's VIN into the form on this page. We ask Kia's dealer system for every visit logged against that car and show them in date order, usually within a few minutes. It costs $14.99, and the card is only charged if records come back.
How complete is Kia coverage?
For Kia the feed returns workshop remarks logged by dealers — repair notes, recall work — rather than a full service history. Where a remark lines up with a service interval it is good evidence a service was done, but it is not the same as a stamped record.
Where is a Kia's service record kept?
Expect dated warranty, recall and repair entries rather than a routine service log.
What will I see on a Kia report?
For Kia, mostly workshop remarks: entries made when a franchised Kia workshop carried out recall or warranty work, each with its date and odometer reading. Routine services are not itemised, but visits that fall about a service interval apart suggest the car was being looked after at the dealer.
Why might a Kia with a stamped service book show no records?
Usually because the servicing was done at independent garages, which don't write to Kia's system, or because it was done before the dealer network kept digital records. A book full of independent stamps can be perfectly genuine; it just has to be backed by the paperwork rather than by the dealer system. If we find nothing, your card isn't charged.
Do I need the owner's permission to check a Kia?
No. The VIN is all we need: no log-in, no ownership documents and no contact with the seller. That's why people use it before they buy, to compare what the seller says with what Kia's dealers recorded.
How do I tell whether a Kia was serviced on time?
Put the dates and readings side by side and look at the spacing. Intervals differ by engine and model year, so the handbook has the exact figure for a given car. A gap much longer than the schedule is worth asking the seller about: it may have been an independent service with an invoice in the folder, or it may have been missed.
Is there a free way to see Kia service history?
Sometimes, if you are the keeper. A Kia dealer will often print the history at the service desk if you bring the car's documents, and some Kia owner apps show recent visits for the car linked to your account. Neither helps a buyer looking at someone else's car, and we know of no public Kia website that shows the whole record. Our $14.99 check needs only the VIN, and the card is only charged if records are found.
How to read a Kia service history
A list of dealer visits only helps if you know what to look for. Three checks cover most of what goes wrong with a used Kia's paperwork.
Line the visits up against the schedule
Look at the spacing between visits rather than the number of them. Visits roughly a schedule apart point to a car that was looked after. A long gap is a question for the seller, not a verdict, because the service may well have been done at an independent garage.
Make sure the odometer only goes up
Each visit records the reading on the day. A figure that falls back between one visit and the next is worth questioning before anything else.
Ask about the years the dealer didn't see
Dealer records stop once a car leaves the franchised network. For those years, ask for the invoices from the garage that did the work and check that the dates and readings on them fit with the rest of the history.
