No charge unless we find records

Can I check a car's service records with just the VIN?

Yes. The VIN is all the manufacturer's system needs. Enter it above and we return the dealer service visits logged against it. $14.99; no charge if nothing is found.

Why the VIN and not the plate

A license plate changes with the state and the owner; the VIN never does. The manufacturer's dealer system keys every visit to the VIN, so it is the identifier that returns the complete record wherever the car has been registered. We do not use plate lookups or any motor-vehicle-record data; the form asks for the VIN directly.

Reading the VIN correctly

A VIN has 17 characters and never contains the letters I, O or Q. If the form rejects what you typed, check for a zero read as an O or a one read as an I. The door-jamb sticker and the windshield plate print it in full; a photo of either is the easiest way to copy it accurately.

What comes back

Every service visit the dealer network logged: the date, the odometer reading, the dealership and the work performed. Where the manufacturer records recall and warranty work, that appears too.

We hold full dealership service records for BMW and Mini; warranty and recall records for Porsche; and workshop remarks for Jeep. Other makes are not covered yet, and the check tells you so before you pay.

Supported Brands

Manufacturer Records

We access service records directly from the manufacturers' dealership systems. In the United States that currently means BMW and MINI in full, with warranty and recall records for Porsche and workshop remarks for Jeep — if a make isn't listed, we don't hold its records here yet.

Complete service records from manufacturer dealership systems, including service dates, mileage, work performed, and service provider details. Suitable for consumer reports and remarketing.

Workshop Remarks

(1)

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The VIN starts with a number — is that right?

Yes. The first character identifies the region of manufacture: 1, 4 and 5 for the United States, 2 for Canada, 3 for Mexico, J for Japan, K for Korea, W for Germany. The report works the same way whichever it is, provided the make is one we cover.

Can I check a car before I buy it?

Yes, and that is the most common use. Ask the seller for the VIN — it is on the title, the registration and the door-jamb sticker — and run the check before you agree a price. If the dealer record stops years before the claimed last service, you have a question to ask.

Is this a vehicle history report?

No. A vehicle history report covers title, liens, accidents and odometer branding from state and insurance records. We return something those reports leave out: the manufacturer's own dealership service records — each service visit the dealer network logged against the VIN, with the date, mileage and work performed. Use both; they answer different questions.

Which makes are covered in the United States?

We hold full dealership service records for BMW and Mini; warranty and recall records for Porsche; and workshop remarks for Jeep. Other makes are not covered yet, and the check tells you so before you pay.

What does a report cost?

$14.99. Your card is authorized at checkout but only charged if we actually find records for the vehicle. If nothing is on file, the authorization is released and you pay nothing.

Where do I find the VIN?

The VIN is a 17-character code. It is on the plate at the base of the windshield on the driver's side, on the sticker inside the driver's door jamb, on the vehicle's title and registration card, and on the insurance ID card.

Does the state the car is registered in matter?

No. Manufacturer service records are stored against the VIN in the manufacturer's national dealer system, not against a state registration, so a car serviced in Texas and now registered in Florida keeps its history.

Ready to check a service history?

Enter the VIN above to start. Reports arrive in minutes — your card is not charged if no manufacturer records are found.
