Window sticker lookup by VIN — the original Monroney sticker or the factory build sheet

The window sticker, or Monroney label, is the sticker every new car sold in the US carries. For Ford, Chevrolet, Jeep, Ram, GMC, Cadillac, Dodge, Subaru, Chrysler, Lincoln, Kia and Buick, look up the original free from the maker where it's on file. For Audi, BMW, Genesis, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Volkswagen and Volvo, get the factory build sheet: every option code, the paint and the trim, decoded from the VIN, $7.99 and only charged if it exists.

Window sticker lookup by VIN

We show you which car it is first, free, and point you to the maker's free original sticker where there is one.

$7.99 for the full factory build sheet: paint, trim, transmission and every factory option. No account needed, and you only pay if we hold one for your vehicle.

The VIN is at the base of the windshield on the driver's side, on the door-jamb sticker, and on the title, registration and insurance card.

How do I look up a car's window sticker by VIN?

It depends on the maker. Stellantis, GM, Kia, Subaru and Ford's dealer site serve the original Monroney sticker free by VIN for recent model years. Other makers don't, so the next best record is the factory build sheet, which lists every option the car was built with but not the prices.

Free Monroney sticker lookup, where the maker publishes it

Some makers serve the original window sticker as a PDF by VIN: the options, the prices and the fuel economy figures exactly as printed for the dealer. Enter the VIN and we build the link to the maker's file. Nothing is sent to us, and it's free.

  • Jeep, Ram, Dodge and Chrysler: Stellantis, for most recent model years.
  • Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac and Buick: GM, for 2021 and newer, most reliably 2023 on.
  • Kia: Kia, for 2015 and newer.
  • Subaru: Subaru, for 2021 and newer.
  • Ford and Lincoln: Ford's dealer site, for some 2022 and newer vehicles.

We aren't affiliated with any manufacturer. The link opens the maker's own document; we never see, store or change it.

A recreated window sticker, with the MSRP

For any other US vehicle, or one whose free sticker comes back blank, a recreated window sticker rebuilds the MSRP and the factory options from factory build data. It's a new printout, not the sticker the car was sold with, and for a model year the maker's free lookup covers we point you to the free original instead.

  • The MSRP: the base price, each factory option or package with its price, and the destination charge.
  • The standard equipment, and the fuel economy and safety ratings where the factory record holds them.

It's $9.99, and only charged when a full sticker is produced. Your card is authorized, not charged, until it arrives; if only part of the factory record is on file you get what was found for free, and if there's none you pay nothing. US-market vehicles only.

$9.99, charged only when a full sticker is produced. Your card is authorized, not charged, until it arrives. If only part of the factory record is on file you get what we found free, and if there's none at all you pay nothing.

A recreation built from factory build data. It is not an original manufacturer document. FindServiceHistory is not affiliated with any manufacturer or with MarketCheck, which produces the sticker for us.

What is a Monroney sticker?

"Monroney sticker" is the name the trade gives a new car's window sticker. It comes from Senator Mike Monroney of Oklahoma, whose Automobile Information Disclosure Act of 1958 requires the label on every new car sold in the US, and it has to stay on the car until it's delivered to the buyer. It shows:

  • The MSRP, with the price of each option and package and the destination charge.
  • The standard equipment, the engine and the transmission.
  • The EPA fuel economy figures and, on recent cars, NHTSA's crash-test star ratings.
  • Where the vehicle was assembled, and where its engine and transmission were made.

The original is the maker's document. A "reproduction" window sticker is a new printout made from data: handy as a reference, but not the document the car was sold with, so say so if you show one to a buyer. The factory build sheet isn't a sticker at all. It's the maker's production record, with every option code and no prices.

What's on the factory build sheet

The build sheet is the manufacturer's own record of how one vehicle left the production line. It's tied to the VIN, so it describes that exact car rather than the model in general.

  • Paint: the factory color name and, on most recent vehicles, the paint code.
  • Interior: upholstery and color.
  • Drivetrain: the transmission and drive type.
  • Every option code with its description, from driver assistance to heated seats, usually well over a hundred entries.

It carries no prices and doesn't mark which items were paid extras. For "does this car really have the package in the ad?" it's exactly what you need; for what the car cost new, you need the original window sticker.

Where to find the VIN

  • Through the windshield, at the bottom corner on the driver's side.
  • On the sticker inside the driver's door jamb.
  • On the title, the registration card and the insurance ID card.

A VIN always has 17 characters and never contains the letters I, O or Q.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Monroney sticker?

It's the name the trade gives a new car's window sticker, after Senator Mike Monroney, whose Automobile Information Disclosure Act of 1958 requires the label on every new car sold in the US. It lists the MSRP, the standard equipment, each option with its price, the destination charge and the EPA fuel economy figures, and it must stay on the car until it's delivered to the buyer.

Is there a free window sticker lookup by VIN?

For Ford, Chevrolet, Jeep, Ram, GMC, Cadillac, Dodge, Subaru, Chrysler, Lincoln, Kia and Buick, often yes: their makers serve the original Monroney sticker by VIN for recent model years, and we give you the link. The years differ by maker; the list above has them. Other makers don't publish theirs online. For those, the factory build sheet ($7.99) lists the same equipment, without the prices.

Can I get the original window sticker for any car?

Only where the maker publishes it. We found no public lookup for Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Volvo or Tesla; a dealer of the make can sometimes print the equipment list for a VIN. A reproduction sticker is a new printout made from data, not the document the car was sold with.

What's the difference between a window sticker and a build sheet?

The window sticker is the label printed for the dealer when the car was new: equipment with prices, the MSRP and the EPA figures. The build sheet is the maker's production record for the same VIN: every option code, the paint and the trim, but no prices.

Which makes does the build sheet cover?

In the United States: Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Genesis, GMC, Hyundai, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Ram, Volkswagen and Volvo. We tested each against real US vehicles before offering it. Other makes aren't offered, because the maker returns nothing useful for US vehicles, and you'll see that before you pay.

How much does the build sheet cost?

$7.99 per vehicle, with no account. The amount is only authorized on your card and taken once the build sheet arrives. If the maker holds nothing, the authorization is released and you pay nothing.

Does it show the original price?

No. The build sheet has no prices. The original sticker does, and for Ford, Chevrolet, Jeep, Ram, GMC, Cadillac, Dodge, Subaru, Chrysler, Lincoln, Kia and Buick it's often free from the maker.

Is it a service history?

No. The window sticker and the build sheet show how a vehicle was built. What has been done to it since is the dealer service history check ($14.99).

Can I get the MSRP for a car whose maker doesn't publish stickers?

Yes, on a recreated window sticker: the MSRP, each factory option with its price and the destination charge, rebuilt from factory build data for that VIN. It's $9.99, charged only when a full sticker is produced, and it's a recreation, not the original document. US-market vehicles only.
