How do I find out what options my Mercedes has?

With its VIN. The Mercedes build sheet lists every option code the vehicle was built with, plus the paint and trim. A free VIN decoder only reads the make, model year and plant from the number: the options aren't in the VIN, they're in Mercedes-Benz's production records.

What Mercedes-Benz's record looks like

Mercedes-Benz codes everything, including the paint (040U above is black) and the upholstery (124A). Its list also carries internal control codes for the plant and sales system alongside the equipment, which we leave in, because they are part of the record; entries the maker left without any description are left out. Mercedes-Benz doesn't publish window stickers online for shoppers.

Where to find the VIN

  • Through the windshield, at the bottom corner on the driver's side.
  • On the sticker inside the driver's door jamb.
  • On the title, the registration card and the insurance ID card.

A VIN always has 17 characters and never contains the letters I, O or Q.

$7.99 per vehicle, with no account. The amount is only authorized on your card and taken once the build sheet arrives. If the maker holds nothing for that VIN, the authorization is released and you pay nothing.

Will it show the Mercedes paint code?

Yes: Mercedes-Benz codes the paint, so it appears with the rest of the codes, beside its name.

Does it show the original price?

No. The build sheet is the production record, with no prices. The original window sticker has them.

Does it work for every Mercedes?

We tested it on real US Mercedes-Benz vehicles before offering it: 4 of 4, model years 2016 to 2022, came back with 111 to 147 entries. Where the maker holds nothing, you're told so and nothing is charged.
